Changing My Name After Our Wedding - Not as Complicated as I Had Feared

Monday, August 25th, 2008

One of the most daunting things for a new bride to do is to get her name changed on all of her documents and pieces of identification. All in all the process was not nearly as complicated as I had feared that it would be. Here are just a few of the simple things that I did to get this process done.

Sharing Our Wedding Pictures Quickly, Without Spending a Large Amount of Money

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

There is no way to pick a date that works for everyone and I knew that absences were unavoidable. Here are a couple of hints on what I did to share our wedding pictures quickly, without spending a large amount of money.

Our BBQ Wedding Reception With a Bang - No Better Ending To Our Wedding Day!

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

After our wedding ceremony was over, we had cake and punch with all of our guests at my grandmother’s house. This gathering was nice, but it was not our actual wedding reception. We invited our very closest friends and family members to my sister’s house and had a traditional fourth of July barbecue planned for the evening, the perfect alternative to a lavish budget-busting wedding reception.

Our Sand Unity Jar, Symbolizing the Joining of Both of Our Families

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Using a unity candle was not an option for us in an outdoor wedding where any small summer breeze would make keeping the wicks lit a real chore. So as an alternative to the unity candle we decided that we were going to use a sand unity jar. It was a very special way to involve the kids in our ceremony and was a great way to symbolize the joining of both of our families.

Our Wedding Ceremony With The Kids - Sometimes You Can’t Plan For Everything

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

As a mother, I have learned that there is a whole list of possibilities that you cannot plan for when children are involved. That list of possibilities have come to pass at all kinds of events. So I did plan for something to go wrong during the ceremony with the kids… but it was like a ticking time bomb… I did not know ahead of time what it would be or when it would happen.

How Our Wedding Music Selection Set The Romantic and Intimate Mood For Our Ceremony

Friday, August 15th, 2008

When it came to picking out our wedding music I did not want to use the traditional wedding march. Nothing in our wedding planning thus far has been traditional…why would we start now? The music that we chose for our wedding helped to set the romantic and intimate mood for our ceremony. I felt that using CDs as opposed to live music was a great option for our budget and the setting for our small family wedding.

Writing Our Own Personalized Wedding Vows

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

As the wedding date drew closer, Robert and I had to decide what kind of wedding vows that we were going to use in our ceremony. I am sure that you can guess… our opinions on the issue did not exactly match. I am a writer, so I obviously wanted to write our own personalized wedding vows. While Robert wanted to use the same traditional wedding vows that most ministers use.

Why I Chose For a Signature Photo Mat As Wedding Guest Book Alternative

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

One of the details that I was considered was the purchase of a guest book, I decided that I did not want to use a traditional guest book that our guests would all sign, and I would eventually pack away and never look at again. I chose instead to use an idea that is gaining in popularity… a signature photo mat. My younger sister used one at here wedding several years ago and it made such a creative keepsake for them that I decided to duplicate and personalize the idea.

How I Was Able To Make Pretty and Cost Effective Wedding Bouquets

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

It was obvious to myself that I did not want to spend a whole lot of money on bouquets of real flowers that were going to wilt in the hot, humid July heat and then dry up and die a few days later. I knew that I would be using silk flowers in our wedding so that I could save money, and have a few to keep as a memento of our wedding day.

How Our Wedding Party Dress Code Helped to Set The Tone

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Once our wedding party was selected, we had to figure out what the wedding party dress code would be for the wedding ceremony. My own dress was not incredibly formal and Robert was planning to wear a simple attire of Khaki dress pants, long sleeve button up white shirt and tie. We knew that in the muggy Missouri heat of July anything more than that outside would make him uncomfortable and hot.
