Why I Chose For a “Do It Yourself Wedding” Instead Of Hiring a Wedding Planner
It seems that it is becoming more and more common for brides to hire wedding planners for help with their wedding. If you can afford it with your budget, then it is a nice commodity to have.
However, I chose to skip the planner hiring process and go for a do it yourself wedding. I did not realize what I was getting myself into at the time, but I had a blast and have even considered getting into wedding planning as a career.
If you have some extra time on your hands and a knack for organization, you might want to try your hand at all the wedding planning yourself, too. But let me tell you, it was not easy.
Wedding planners are already experts. They know all the right questions to ask, and certain terms to look for when it comes to vendors. I had to learn all of this on my own. I was even googling ‘Things to ask a caterer’ in a desperate attempt to make sure I was not missing anything.
I had a large and expansive folder that I categorized and then stuffed full of magazine clippings, printouts, contracts, receipts, and scribbled ideas. I printed out to-do lists from theknot.com and even bought a few wedding books to make sure I was on top of things.
Needless to say, the few months before my wedding were hectic, and I was panicking a bit from time to time. I wish that I had paced myself better, and spread my projects out a little more. Yet in the end, everything came together nicely. I hadn’t forgotten or overlooked anything, and I was glad that I had chosen to be so hands-on with the planning of my wedding.
It turns out that with a willingness to work hard and do a little research, I didn’t need a wedding planner after all. I walked away from this diy wedding planning experience with a lot more confidence, too!
