How Choosing Our Wedding Colors Ahead of Time Made The Rest of the Process Easier

A color-coordinated reception Before I did much more with the wedding planning process, I wanted to choose our wedding colors. The way I saw it, I needed to know the colors I would be using before moving on to other important decisions, such as attendant wear, flowers, favors, and centerpieces. My mother was also pressuring me to choose a color scheme, because she needed the information before she could start looking for her dress – one year in advance, of course.

I didn’t consider Brian to be much help in this area. I originally wanted light pink and hunter green as my colors, and thought that it would be gorgeous to have my bridesmaids in the green dresses carrying pale pink flowers.

But after a few weekends spent searching for hunter green dresses, my maid of honor and I weren’t having much luck. David’s Bridal had some dresses in the shade we were looking for, but I didn’t really like the available styles. It was back to the drawing board.

I ended up going with midnight blue and light pink. Perfect, once I thought about it. Pink is my favorite color, and midnight blue is Brian’s favorite. I incorporated this many ways. The bridesmaid dresses were a shade from David’s Bridal called ‘blue velvet’. The groomsmen wore black tuxedos with silver vests (I wanted them in a neutral color). All of the flowers were light pink and white.

The favors, boxes of Jordan almonds, were tied in pink ribbon with midnight blue writing. I bought some light pink candles for the centerpiece arrangements, and the reception hall was kind enough to set out light pink napkins. Our cake was even decorated with pink flowers.

Everything turned out beautifully. Deciding on my wedding colors ahead of time definitely made the rest of the process easier, since I knew exactly what to look for. And luckily, most companies or vendors offer their wedding products in a variety of colors, making it extremely possible to color coordinate every last detail.
