Choosing Our Wedding Cake – Fun and a Lot of Sampling!
We lucked out when it came to our wedding cake – Brian’s aunt makes wedding cakes professionally. She was one of the first vendors we knew we were going to use, which was a great feeling. I really enjoyed being able to check something off of my to-do list without even having to do anything!
We went to her house one evening to sample some delicious cakes, and to choose the design and flavors that we wanted. Not only had she made two small cakes, white and chocolate, but she also made a plate of chocolate cupcakes. They were wonderful! Moist, flavorful, and perfect. I think I gained six pounds just being there.
We ended up choosing a fairly large wedding cake, and I wanted one with a simple and elegant design in the frosting. After looking through pictures of cakes that she had available, I decided I really liked the look of flowers decorating the cake.
Aunt Sue said that she could make flowers out of frosting, and I was also going to provide flower petals, as well as a wedding cake topper and a small bouquet for the top of the cake.
The cake topper is where Brian and I disagreed. He wanted to have a bride and groom on the top of the cake, and for whatever reason I was against that idea. Needless to say, I won the battle. I purchased one of the wedding cake toppers from myweddingfavors, which is also where I got my wedding favors. The topper was only about twenty dollars.
Our cake’s flavors alternated by tier. We had white cake with strawberry mousse filling and chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling. It was delicious, and Aunt Sue made a sheet cake as well.
The cake was gorgeous, and I got a lot of compliments on it. It was also one of my favorite parts of the wedding planning, because it involved a lot of sampling and not a lot of decisions!
