How Our Wedding Music Selection Set The Romantic and Intimate Mood For Our Ceremony

I am sure that it comes as no surprise to any of you who have been reading my previous posts and are following the story of Robert and me and my wedding planning, that when it came to picking out our wedding music I did not want to use the traditional wedding march. Nothing in our wedding planning thus far has been traditional…why would we start now?

I knew that I wanted to use Canon in D, I have always loved that song and it seemed to fit our outdoor summer wedding perfectly. I had to decide on what version of the song that we were going to use as well as the music that I wanted to use to set the mood for the beginning of the wedding.

Keeping in mind that we were operating on such a small budget I began to look for a way to cut costs on our wedding music selection. As I was searching for the perfect arrangement of Canon in D on CD I was looking at paying between $9 and $15 for this song. Plus I was wanting to use other music to have playing over a CD player as the guests were coming in and a separate song for when the wedding party was walking out.

The alternative that I choose to use was to download the songs that I wanted to use for the wedding. I was able to download them from Walmart.com for 94 cents a piece. I chose a total of ten songs – eight songs that I burned all on one CD that were played on the CD player as guests arrived and were seated, and then the other two songs were burned onto a separate CD.  The first was Ode to Joy which I used as the wedding party came out and then the final song was the chosen arrangement of Canon in D.

I was able to purchase all ten songs for only $9.40, cheaper than what I would have paid for even one CD. I was lucky enough that I already had blank rewritable CDs at home so I did not have to purchase them for the wedding.

I asked my cousin to be our ‘DJ’ of sorts at the wedding, she was in charge of fading out the music and changing to the appropriate songs at the right time. It worked out really well to have her do this for us because we had also asked her to do a reading for the wedding.

So as soon as the bridal procession was over our minister led ourselves and our guests in a prayer, during which my cousin was able to walk to the altar where she did her bible reading immediately following the prayer.

The wedding music that we chose helped to set the romantic and intimate mood for our ceremony. I felt that using CDs as opposed to live music was a great option for our budget and the setting for our small family wedding.
