Choosing Our Wedding Reception DJ – Easy Decision

The crowd got moving! I never really thought about the possibility of having a band play at my reception, because I already knew a DJ I wanted to use. My cousin’s husband, Steve, is a professional DJ for events. He had done some family weddings already so I was familiar with his work.

Next to our wedding cake, this was one of the first vendors we got for our wedding. In fact, I think I emailed my cousin the day I got engaged to make sure that Steve was available for our wedding day.

I have to admit, it made the wedding planning a lot easier knowing that trusted family members were taking care of a couple major chunks of the day. I know I’m really lucky to be able to say that, and to have two professional wedding vendors in the family! Steve did a phenomenal job, as usual.

A few months before my wedding, I was a bridesmaid for my best friend’s wedding. During her father and bride dance, the DJ had some technical difficulties. The song suddenly stopped, and the DJ just put his head in his hands and panicked for a few minutes before starting the song over. He didn’t even apologize for the incident. Luckily, my friend didn’t make a big deal out of it. But many brides would have, including me!

I realized after that how difficult it can be to find quality vendors. So when you find one you love, hold on tight! Steve may have been family, but we still treated each other in a business-like manner during the wedding process. He was paid promptly, and he did everything on his end professionally and promptly as well.

He followed the list of requested songs and did a good job of adding in some other songs. He really got the crowd at our wedding moving and having a good time. I had a few people tell me that it was the funnest wedding they had ever been to.

I even recommended him to a few people, and will continue to do so – not because we are related, but because he did a fantastic job.
