Creating My Own Wedding Invitations in 3 Steps

My hand-made wedding invitations One of the most creative ideas I had for our wedding was creating our own wedding invitations. I had been to a few bridal supply stores in town that specialized in invitations and just wasn’t impressed with what I saw. Plus, once everything was ordered it would be quite expensive. So, I decided to make my own wedding invitations.

I’m sure all of us have seen some people’s homemade invitations and not thought too much about them. But, I really think mine looked classy. I had a great response to them too on how unique and pretty they were. Okay, so how did I create my own wedding invitations?

The invitation was in three parts. The first part was the back where the text information was located. I printed it on my color inkjet printer on sage green textured cardstock paper that I found at a local scrapbook store. I made a template in Word to print two invitations per page. At the very top I put mine and my fiancé’s names.

Then I spaced down a considerable amount and put a love quote. I used the one from Robert Browning … “Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.” Then I spaced down more to include the normal invitation text… my name, fiancé’s name, children of our parent’s names, date, time and location. I did the text in black and purple.

On to step two… I made another template in Word to print two per page on vellum paper of our engagement picture. This was the right size so it would fit perfectly in the spaced areas I left on the text part of the invitation. I punched a small hole in both pages and used a pretty metal brad, found at a craft store, to attach the vellum paper on top of the card stock paper.

Step three… I did quite a bit of looking online and found 12 by 12 scrapbook paper with a pretty hydrangea design for the envelopes. The envelopes took a while to put together, but my husband, mother and I had an assembly line process going to put the invitations together. There you have it a do it yourself wedding invitation that saved us money and was unique. It took some time, but it was worth it!
