Creating Our Unique Wedding Guest Book
I really enjoyed creating our wedding guest book. Instead of the same ol’ sign your name to a book I went a little bit further. Even though photographers are hired to take pictures of our important day, wedding guests tend to get overlooked. I wanted to remember who came to our wedding and what they looked like instead of just what their signature looked like.
So, what better way to remember than to take their picture? My guest registry attendant, a college friend, had a big job to do. Not only did she need to get people to sign in the book, but she had to take their picture too.
When our wedding invitations were sent out I enclosed a 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inch piece of paper with a hydrangea design that asked them to tell us a memory or something they would want us to know about marriage. The hydrangea paper matched the hydrangea envelope I designed for our invitations.
When they came to the wedding they were to bring their piece of paper. I had designed a template in Word that had a framed area on top, a place for their name in the middle and then on the bottom the piece of paper that they filled out would be added. This was printed on cream colored cardstock paper.
My mother then took a notebook binder and covered it in material left over from my dress that was altered and attached two wedding rings and ribbon used from our rice bags on the front. What a neat touch!
The pages were hole-punched and put in the binder for the day of our wedding. My mother had even saved the feathered pen that was used at her wedding for the guest registry book and allowed us to use it for our wedding.
Some folks that weren’t able to attend the wedding sent their papers back to us. We don’t have their picture, but we have the caring words that they wanted us to know.
After we got back from our honeymoon I put the book together by attaching the pictures and the notes onto the pages of the book. I love looking back at this book and seeing our guests and what they had to say to us.
