Finding My Wedding Dress – For Less Than 500.00 Shipped Right To My Door

My wedding dress Ok, everybody else has pretty clothes for the wedding. I had better find a wedding dress for me. One thing I never understood about buying a wedding dress was alterations. On top of the fact that I did not want to spend thousands on a wedding dress that I was only going to wear once, I also did not want to spend a hundred or two for alterations.

Who exactly came up with this racket? “Let’s make people think it is normal to sell them a dress that is three sizes too big, and then charge them to make it smaller..ahahaha!” Well I was not falling for it.

I rounded up the girls and we headed out. We scrounged all the traditional bridal shops in the area. Rack after rack of dresses that were not the right one. You do not know the right one until you see it, but you can spot the wrong one a mile away. After about six stores I think you can tell as soon as you walk in a place whether THE dress is in there.

We decided to make the two hour journey to the J.C.Penney outlet. We did not know if we would find anything there, but they were rumored to have great deals. We waded our way through the racks of dresses and survived the throngs of people stepping on our feet but did not leave with dress in hand.

I was about ready to give up and take my parents up on their money for elopement offer. We went back home, exhausted. I did not find a wedding dress at the Penney’s outlet, but I did grab a catalog on our way out the door. I was thumbing through it the next day when I found IT, the very dress that we had been searching for had been hiding in the pages of this catalog the whole time!

I picked up a phone and called the 800 number inside. Did they have this dress? Did they have my size? Was it really my size or did they run big or small? You mean you make the dresses in actual sizes? I will take one please and thank you, send it out!

It was perfect, white, off the shoulder, with a train but not one so long that I would break my neck, perfect! All this for less than 500.00 shipped right to my door. The only sewing I had to have done was the bustling. I found a local seamstress who did a beautiful job for only 50.00. Talk about budget friendly!

The idea of keeping my wedding dress for a daughter to wear someday is a nice notion, but seems to happen less and less as times and traditions change. I am thinking of having my gown made into quilts for my kids to have when they are older… or maybe a quilt for myself who knows.

With the quilt idea I can also pass a piece of this memory on to my son as well as my daughters. I have even thought about keeping it in case I am blessed with grand kids in the future, then maybe I will have christening outfits made out of it.

It is good to know that you can still find a wedding dress at such a good price. Retail clothing usually doesn’t need as many alterations as bridal designer wedding dresses for some reason.

Well, my wedding was almost ten years ago, but I am sure retail dresses are still a better deal. Thank you for reading my story! Denise
