From a Modern Beginning to a Fairytale Ending
Many years ago I would sometimes suffer from insomnia. One night I was up late surfing the internet just trying to relax and I decided to see who was currently online in my city, the search returned only one name. I sent this person an IM just saying “Hi” … little did I know that I was starting a ball rolling that would eventually roll right down the aisle!
The person on the other end responded to my message, and we started chatting. I would find out that his name was Justin, and that he was home on leave from the Navy. We exchanged the normal online information such as first names only, no exact addresses, of course being a female I always tried to be careful online because you never really knew who you were talking to.
Over the next week or two I saw him online a few times while I was on, and I would always say “Hi”, or something simple. Some days he would chat, and others he would just offer a brief exchange of pleasantries. One time we exchanged pictures and in the picture he sent me, his face was not much bigger than the tip of a pen. He was on the bow of his Navy ship with hundreds of other sailors, I felt gypped. He now knew what I looked like, but all I knew was that he HAD a face….maybe.
One night after we had chatted several times he asked if I wanted to meet him at a local park and walk around the lake that was there, now keep in mind this was like midnight when we were chatting. I typed back a LOL, yea right let me come and meet you, a virtual stranger, late at night, by myself.
Thank you for the nice offer, but ummm NO. He sends back that his mom and step dad are both in local law enforcement so I could trust him. Again I laughed, and said “what else would your average ax murderer tell me to lure me to the lake?” LOL
A few more days would go by, and a few more chat sessions. We finally decided to meet in person, but it would be during the day, in public, and I would bring my girlfriend with me. It is always great when you have a friend that will go with you to meet a potential ax murderer. My friend and I picked Justin up at his house… this would be the first time I really laid eyes on him.
He came out of the house wearing nice fitting jeans, a T-shirt that was tight on his arms because of his biceps and a baseball cap…gulp! I thought then and there that he was out of my league, but we let him get in the car anyway haha. The three of us went to a local country bar to go dancing. I was so nervous, but at least I got one slow dance out of the deal, boy did he smell good..wait a minute, where was I? Anyway, he must have had a good time too because he showed up at my door a day or two later and we finally did go for that walk.
A year later we were walking down the aisle. In my upcoming posts I will be sharing our wedding story of a short engagement, planning a lovely wedding in only 6 months, and our point of view as we approach our tenth anniversary.

LOL…I guess that is one way of looking at it. I always warn people to be careful who they talk to online because they could end up married with three kids!
Thanx for the comment!

Oh that was such a sweet story!!! I like to hear other good endings that started out with online dating. That is how my husband and I met as well. I think it is way better than meeting someone in a bar or something lol. I am looking forward to reading more of your work:)
