How e Wedding Invites Saved Us Money and Time
You will notice in our budget breakdown that we did not set aside money for wedding invitations, there are two reasons for this. First of all, everyone on our guest list was immediate family and friends, people that we are in frequent contact with. Secondly, we stumbled across this wonderful website called evite.com where you can design your own custom invitations to your special event and email them out to family and friends.
I know that there are many websites out there that offer e-invites, some of them are totally free and some of them charge per invitation. A few of them will let you print your creations off and then either mail via snail mail or simply email them online. I chose evite.com because of the variety that they offered, the fact that the service was 100% free, and the many features.
Let me walk you through the process of creating your personalized e wedding invites. First, when you pull up evites.com’s homepage you will need to first click on the header at the top that says Invitations, then along the left hand side of the page you will see the various types of invitations available. Since they are alphabetized, the wedding invitation link is naturally towards the bottom of the page. After you have clicked on this link it will bring up many options of premade invitation templates, or it will give you the option of uploading a photo and create your own special and unique invitation.
One great feature that I loved about this site was that not only did I get to include our information such as date, time, event, and location, but this service will also attach a map to the location for each recipient. We also had the option of including an online wedding registry link, which is very convient for many guests, however if you are not comfortable with providing your guests with this information you do not have to include it. This website also allowed us to include a personalized message to our wedding guests telling that we were looking forward to them attending our ceremony.
Another great advantage for me of doing e wedding invites was that it made our wedding more environmentaly friendly. I sent out 30 email wedding invitations which I estimate saved a small tree somewhere in the world from being sacrificed to supply me with invitations, envelopes, stamps, RSVP Cards, and response envelopes. Not to mention the fact that we estimate we saved a whopping $100-200 by not ordering traditional wedding invitations and paying postage on them.
I would recomend e wedding invites to any bride who is operating on a very limited budget or to anyone looking to have a “green” wedding. They are a great option that can save a lot of money and paper. Robert and I were very pleased with the way that ours turned out!
