Make Hand Tied Silk Flower Wedding Bouquets You Can Be Proud Of
We’ve already talked about the many different styles of wedding bouquets that you can make, but remember that any arrangement that you carry down the aisle is classified as a bouquet whether it fits into one of those style categories or not. So your primary objective is not to copy a style, but rather to create an arrangement that you find interesting and pleasing.
Now, the hand tied bouquets are the easiest and the current trend is a hand tied wedding bouquet where the flowers are carried upright with the stems bound together with ribbon. This style is popular now because it’s different from what’s been carried in the recent past and because of its simplicity and beauty.
I come from mainly a wedding photography background so I personally am not comfortable with that arrangement because when it’s carried upright, all you see from the front is the stems and a little of the flower tops.
In order for you to see more of the flowers the bride would have to carry the bouquet at a forward angle which would be awkward with the stems against your dress and the flowers not totally visible to the bride.
There is a solution… using silk flowers. Remember that silk flower stems are made of plastic over wire and that makes them bendable and very flexible. What this means is that any style of bouquet can be hand tied.
As long as you have time before your wedding, go to a craft store and purchase some cheap silk flowers to practice on. Get someone to help you by holding the flowers still as you form the shape you want.
By bending the stems you can hand tie them so they’re comfortable to carry, but you can also bend them enough where the flowers in front can face the front and the flowers at the top can face the top so that the bouquet is curved and all can enjoy its beauty.
To tie the stems first wrap floral tape around them and then wrap your pretty ribbon around to hide most of the stems and all of the tape.
You don’t have to forego fillers with this method either. All you have to do is take a stem and remove the flower head, and then attach the filler you want to use to the end of the empty stem with floral tape. The tape generally matches the color of the stems and your bouquet should be full enough to hide the taped part.
Hand tied wedding bouquets are the easiest to assemble and very often look the prettiest. Don’t be afraid to try you may be very glad you did!
