Pew Buckets – A Different Take on Pew Decorations
I’ve never been a good bow maker, and I didn’t want to pay the high price that people charge for pew bows.
I also didn’t want to have to deal with hoping I wouldn’t smash the bows, so I went a different route.
I made pew buckets. I based the design on Martha Stewart’s pew buckets that I found on her website.
Being the thrifty person that I am, I did extensive looking on the galvanized buckets that would be used. I ended up finding 14 identical buckets on eBay that worked great.
They had a handle on them, but I didn’t hang them on the pews. Instead I put them at the bottom of each pew. This was done because we couldn’t figure out any other way to put them. How Dear Martha had them on the pews didn’t work on the pews at our church. I worried a little that they would be kicked over, but they all stayed upright! Yeah!
In each bucket I used artificial flowers. We bought the flowers at Hobby Lobby when they were having a huge sale. The main flower was a calla lily… to go along with our theme. The rest of the flowers were white and purple with greenery.
I tried to get the fullest type flowers to fill up the buckets so they didn’t look empty. I also put tissue paper at the bottom of each bucket as a bit of filler and to cover up the flower putty that was used for the stems of the flowers to go into.
The pew buckets were one of the biggest headaches of the planning… it took a lot of work to get them to look right. In the end, I was happy with how they turned out. I never knew that planning a wedding could make you an expert at everything! Or at least making you think you’re an expert at everything.
After our wedding I ended up selling the pew buckets, already put together, at about $15 profit from what I spent on them. That helped pay for the buckets and the time that was spent. Plus, we didn’t have to store them in the “what do I do with this now” pile.
