Young Bride-to-be From Novice to Expert After Planning 350-Guest Wedding in 8 Months
Dresses. Favors. Flowers. Centerpieces. Attendant gifts. Contracts. Deposits.
It was a big undertaking for a young bride-to-be, but I set out to plan a beautiful and organized wedding. The first of all my friends to get married, I had no experience or knowledge of wedding planning, wedding etiquette, or even costs. I had eight months to plan a large wedding (twelve attendants and three hundred and fifty guests).
And plan I did. Successfully, I might add. My wedding was absolutely beautiful, and I fell in love with the planning process. I thoroughly researched any and every topic involved in weddings, even if they did not apply to me. I studied pictures of other people’s weddings, even though they weren’t my taste. I was suddenly obsessed with weddings.
My fiance and I had met through mutual friends and were engaged nearly ten months later. We were both young, but knew we had found the person we had always wanted in each other. With the support of our parents, we moved forward into making our devotion official.
My new husband, Brian, is a wonderful man, but let’s face it – he didn’t have a whole lot to do with our wedding plans. I would gush over ideas and possibilities, and unload shipments of favors and decorations while he would sit idly by and wonder aloud, “What is that? You need those? I’ve never heard of favors.”
“I’ve probably patted myself on the back too many times for my excellent planning and expertise involved in my wedding, but I can’t help it. The experience was too much fun! I also truly believe that it can be fun for every bride. As long as you know where to look and what to look for, you can find exactly the ideas you need for your dream wedding.”
I hope that our wedding story will make your process a little easier, and maybe make you enjoy it as well.
