Selecting Gifts For Our Wedding Gift Registry
One of the most fun activities of getting married is selecting the gifts that people will purchase for you.
I lived by myself when I went to college in a town 2 hours from home, but things would be different when I was married.
After I graduated from college, I moved back in with my mother until Billy and I got married… this was six years of time.
When I went off to college I had all hand-me-down pans, towels and more. But, now I was going to get married. I would get new, neat things. How exciting!!
I recruited the help of my mother and sister and off we went to Linens ‘n Things to start adding items to our gift registry. We walked through the aisles and I added some pretty frivolous items… a girl can dream, right?
Needless to say, most of those items I didn’t get, which was okay in the end. I needed help in knowing what was really needed… such as towels, pots and pans, glasses, dishes and more. There was a lot to choose from!
After I got home I logged in to my wedding registry and narrowed things down a little by removing what was really not that practical. I still left a few fun things on there! I printed the list, and the next week Billy and I went to Linens ‘n Things. I wanted his feedback too.
He had told several people that he would register at Home Depot, but they didn’t have a registry at the time. But, while we were at Linens ‘n Things, Billy got into it. We changed a few things that he liked better. I’m glad that I included him in the selection. It made him feel like he was a part of this whole wedding process.
When we sent our wedding invitations out, I made a point to not include where we were registered. I’ve always believed it was tacky to do so. If people want to know, they’ll ask.
I didn’t want to get carried away in the gimme… gimme mind set. A simple card would be greatly appreciated as a token of congratulations. We did receive many nice things from folks that helped us get started on the right foot of planning our new life together.
