How I Started Planning My Wedding By Envisioning The Perfect Wedding

I always knew the exact kind of wedding I wanted – BIG. I wanted a packed church, large reception hall, and a giant wedding cake. Backyard barbeques or intimate beach weddings sounded nice enough, but I was really just into big and fancy.

Of course, every bride is different. Depending on your budget and tastes, you may want anything from a Cinderella wedding with hundreds of guests to a ceremony with no one present but your groom and your closest family members. Hey, you may even want to elope!

Perhaps the most important first step in planning your wedding is asking yourself exactly what you want. Can you afford a huge wedding? Do you have a large family filled with people you absolutely have to invite? I was particularly focused on a large celebration, but plenty of brides are only interested in a private and intimate celebration.

My best friend chose to get married in a beautiful park – and even though it rained that day, the wedding was still gorgeous. There are pros and cons to consider for any option, but your day has to ultimately be about what you want.

Don’t forget to think about your family or religious customs and traditions. You may want to include some or all of these. Try to close your eyes and picture how you imagine your wedding, from beginning to end.

Because I knew exactly the type of wedding that I wanted, the rest of my planning just fell into place. Once you have a decent picture of all the things you want to make happen, it will be a lot easier to forge ahead into your detailed planning process.
