Sharing Our Wedding Pictures Quickly, Without Spending a Large Amount of Money

Robert comes from a VERY large family, he is the youngest of ten brothers and sisters.  Most of them still live in his small hometown in upstate New York, as does his seventy-four year old mother.  Since we now live in an equally small town in the middle of Missouri it was unfortunately not possible for any of his family to attend our holiday wedding celebration.  I know that was a disappointment to him but I also know that he understood that the travel time and expense was just to great for them to join us.

His family members were not the only ones that were unable to join up on our special day, my father and his wife live in Colorado.  My dad is a college basketball coach and the Fourth of July falls right in the middle of his busiest recruiting time of the year.  Also my brother and his wife were unable to make the trip from Indiana, on the account that my sister in law was expecting their first child and due any day.

As I said in my earlier posts, there is no way to pick a date that works for everyone and I knew that these absences were unavoidable.  If I found a date that worked for our out of town guests… my sister was unable to come, as she travels a great deal with her job.  So we made the best effort to make those friends and family members that were not able to attend the wedding feel as though they were a part of everything by getting pictures out to everyone as quickly as possible.

Here are a couple of hints on what I did to share our wedding pictures quickly, without spending a large amount of money. The first thing that I did was upload all of our wedding pictures onto my Facebook page.  In this day of the Internet, a large amount of our friends and family are also on Facebook… we use it to stay in touch and share pictures with one another quickly.  I made an effort to have them uploaded the day after the wedding because I knew that people were anxiously awaiting seeing them.

The second thing that we did was to order pictures through Walmart.com, this allowed us to send pictures to one-hour photos all over the country, or at least the ones closest to our friends and family.  We sent some to the store closest to Robert’s mom, my dad, and my brother.  I know that they were pleased that all they had to do was go in and pick them up, it made things very simple on all of us.  I really like Wal-Mart’s online photo center because you can crop, edit, and order just like the kiosk in the stores.

Finally, we had photo cards printed up that had our wedding picture, the wedding date, and a message announcing our new marriage. We mailed these out to more distant relatives and friends that we knew would also appreciate a photo of the big day.

These were very simple ways that we were able to make our family members feel like they did not miss out by not being there with us on our special day.
