Why I Chose For a Signature Photo Mat As Wedding Guest Book Alternative
As I was shopping for the little details that we would need to make our wedding day picture perfect. One of the details that I was considered was the purchase of a guest book, I decided that I did not want to use a traditional guest book that our guests would all sign, and I would eventually pack away and never look at again.
I chose instead to use an idea that is gaining in popularity… a wedding signature photo mat. My younger sister used one at here wedding several years ago and it made such a creative keepsake for them that I decided to duplicate and personalize this great wedding guestbook alternative.
Let me share with you how I made this inexpensive and very special wedding keepsake. I purchased a simple 8×10 white signature photo mat that was cut for a 5×7 photo at a local craft store.
I then chose a simple 8×10 picture frame that I liked and felt matched the decor of our home. During the wedding reception we laid out the photo mat and asked our guests to please sign a simple wedding day message upon it.
We choose to use the smaller mat size because we knew that our guest list was going to be small, and we wanted the mat to appear to be full. I did not want to use a large signature picture mat and have a bunch of blank spots that looked bare and half done. If you are having a larger wedding, you can use a larger mat so that you will have more room for a larger number of signatures.
After the wedding I picked out our favorite 5×7 wedding photo and made a black and white copy of it. I then mounted it carefully with acid free photo adhesive that I purchased at a scrapbook store. Once the picture was perfectly mounted behind our signature mat, I placed it behind the glass.
I am very happy with our choice to not use a traditional guest book, because we created a great keepsake and a budget friendly item. Traditional guest books can range anywhere from $15-50 dollars depending on the size, brand, and style that you purchase. I was able to do this entire wedding signature photo mat project for only $20 and I love it!
We have found a special place in the hallway of our home to hang our wedding photo mat with wedding picture. I love the fact that each day we are not only greeted with the photo reminder of our special day, but also the loving notes and messages from our friends and family members.
This photo mat will be a constant reminder of the guests that shared in our wedding day that will never be packed away in a box or drawer, instead it will be displayed proudly in our home for years to come.
