Choosing Our Wedding Date - Giving Up My Fall Wedding Dream

Spending time with family was the best part of our wedding I had always wanted a fall wedding. Fall is my favorite season (as well as Brian’s), and I had always thought that the decorative options for fall weddings were gorgeous. But since I have such a large family with many members living out of state, I had to compromise and pick a time of year that would accommodate everyone.

Since I am very close to my out of state family members, I knew that a summer wedding would allow me to spend more time with them.

My younger cousins would have school in the fall, but a summer wedding would mean that the family could come to town for a week rather than just fly in for the weekend.

Brian and I chose an early August wedding, and we got to spend time with family members before and after the wedding. It may have meant giving up my fall wedding dream, but I know I would have regretted barely spending time with my loved ones during a rushed weekend spent together.

Choosing the time for my wedding was easy. I wanted a reception that went late into the night, so I planned to book the reception hall in the latest time slot possible and make the ceremony time a couple hours before that.

This would allow time for the ceremony, photographs, and for my guests to arrive at the reception site and get some cocktails. We ended up getting married at four in the afternoon. We had the reception hall from five to eleven, and dinner was served at six. We got lucky with our hall, because they allowed us to keep partying until after eleven!

“Planning your wedding date and time schedule may require making practice lists and seeing how the possible scenarios work for you. Don’t forget to account for time needed for pictures, signing the marriage license, or any traveling time between the ceremony and reception sites.”

All of the options for a wedding date can be fun and exciting, so consider all of your possibilities, such as: a sunset beach summer wedding, a tasteful spring brunch wedding, or a New Year’s themed winter bash.
