Important Questions To Ask Wedding Vendors

Posted by Pamela on Thursday, September 11th, 2008 in Pamela & Brian

Since I knew virtually nothing about wedding planning when I started the process, I relied a lot on the internet and articles to guide me. And when it came time to meet with wedding vendors, I found myself informed and prepared with all of the questions I needed to ask.

All I did was put “questions to ask wedding vendors” into my search engine, and then I started printing away. There are a lot of wedding websites that offer pages of thoughtful questions. A decent one to look into is USA Bride’s list of vendor questions.

I was really grateful that I was armed with the right questions to ask. I mentioned this in my post about catering when I brought up asking the caterer about keeping leftover food or whether or not they charge by plate or by person.

There are questions to ask all vendors. For example, I never would have thought to ask my photographer if he would have backup equipment on site, or if his company provided a second photographer if he were to have an emergency. When I brought it up, I found out that all of those things were provided and I was able to get that information in writing – which is a very important step.

It was because of this research that I also knew to ask the photographer about digital negative rights, and the officiant if we were allowed to write our own vows and if only religious songs were allowed at the ceremony.

I was also able to ask the DJ if he provided his own decorations and lighting. These are things that may seem like common sense, but I honestly doubt I would have thought of all of these questions (and more) during the hectic wedding planning process.

“I would strongly recommend doing as much research as possible, especially before meeting with vendors… Letting the vendors know right off the bat that you are well informed and know exactly what you are looking for puts you in the driver’s seat.”

Hopefully you won’t run into any vendors that are looking to provide less service for more money, but you can’t be too careful.
